This is a story of persistance. It starts with the dedication and passion of Principe Alberico Boncompagni Ludovisi and his wine estate Fiorano in Lazio. Ludovisi’s progressive wine-making practices were avant-garde for his time, but his organic farming and magical mold launched phenomenal wines with an extraordinary ability to age. His 70s, 80s, and 90s whites were even more intriguing as the Prince was ever elusive and refused to release his wines. The destiny therefore of his wines and vineyard incited an unusual response for a wine-maker. Concerned about misrepresentation and the enduring legacy of his wine and land, he destroyed his vineyard and bequeathed his wine cellar to the Italian wine critic Luigi Veronelli. The late Veronelli was entrusted to find appropriate individuals who would keep his vision and discovery alive. The mission continues today, as the late critic Veronelli passed the cellar onto Sergio, presenting him with fulfilling the Prince’s mission.
